History of the Oldwalls: Part I is a quest in Bastard's Wound.
Synopsis[ | ]
Mell has asked you to enter the Oldwalls to find and bring back Sage Lexeme and Reef-Talon. He thinks Lexeme can help fix whatever is wrong with Reef-Talon and bring peace back to the Wound.
Acquisition[ | ]
It is easy to miss this quest, since it is only available if you refuse to side with either Wagstaff or Jaspos. In order to start this quest, you must first complete both the competing leaders' fetch-quests (Jaspos' Knapping on the Job and Wagstaff's Tide Together), then speak to Mell. If you've accepted either Blood of the Beast or Bones of the Beast, Mell will not offer this alternative quest.
This path through the depths is unique to this quest line. You will fight gangs from all three factions (Wagstaff, Jaspos and Reef-Talon). Both the Darkened Hollows and the Fractured Depths are partly under water. Lexeme may decide not to lead you into a trap.
Walkthrough[ | ]
- To unlock the depths, head to Insipid Moniker. If you completed Midnight Wanderer, you can leverage the knowledge and intimidate her. Otherwise, you can use Athletics 57 or Lore 52. You receive the Bastard's Wound Oldwalls Keystone. Alternatively, if you killed her at the conclusion of Midnight Wanderer, then you'd have already looted the torchkey from her corpse. Head to the easternmost portal (the one where Moniker fought off the Bane attack) and use it to enter The Abyss.
- Defeat the war party sent to find Reef-Talon and grab the Lazu torchkey. Approach the stairs to talk to Reef-Talon. No matter what you say, she will flee into the Oldwalls. You will need three torchkeys to lower the stairs which you will discover by exploring the depths and find in this order: Lazu, Cymo, and Jadis. (Note that to access locations in the depths, it is vital to remember that you can interact with the torches and buttons at a distance, across gaps you can't cross.)
- Use the blue Lazu Torchkey to extend the bridge to the SW. Clear as much of the area as you can access, then take the portal in the SW to the Fractured Depths.
- You start in the NW corner of the Fractured Depths. After a fight and looting, the only way forward is to jump a gap. Do not examine the mural (see Bug section below). Use Lazu torchkey to extend bridge, cross onto central platform and get ready for a big fight against Wagstaff's gang who run in across a bridge from the NE. After the fight, head NE across the bridge and use the Lazu torchkey to activate two buttons. The first one will lower the water level, the second will extend a bridge that was underwater. Continue around the path, down some stairs and into another big fight. After the fight, search the platform. If you have Lantry, there is a chronicle fragment here. Use Lazu to extend the bridge to the SW, cross and find a sunken room with two corpses. Loot them to get the Cymo Torchkey. Now you can clear the rest of this level. When done, head back to the Abyss.
- With Cymo, you can now extend the bridge to the NE. Cross, fight, and now you have access to a portal to the Darkened Hollow. Take it.
- You start in a room on the western edge of the Darkened Hollow. Use Cymo to open the door and walk into a fight with Jaspos' gang who will drop a keystone that activates the portal just up the stairs to the NE. Return down the stairs and head SE. Use Cymo to drain the water. Head down to the SE corner, use Cymo to open the doors. After a fight, loot corpse in the area to obtain the Jadis Torchkey. Clear the level, then return to the Abyss.
- Once you have all three torchkeys, use them on the three beacons in the Abyss (Lazu, Jadis, Cymo, counter-clockwise) and ascend the steps.
- You will find Lexeme beyond. Talk to her. Bringing Lantry along results in a touching moment for them both, and is a part of his companion quest. Talking to her completes the first part of the quest. If you agree to help Reef-Talon, she will give you the Tanza torchkey.
Bug[ | ]
Important note: Examining the murals before you're told to examine them by Lexeme and help Reef-Talon (i.e. at this point) can trigger a bug that will render the expansion uncompletable without a patch. Keep that in mind.
