'''Defense''' is the catch-all term encompassing the five different types of defenses that are measured against the [[accuracy]] of the attacker. Defense applies as follows: * Parry affects melee attacks. * Dodge affects ranged non-magical attacks. * Endurance affects [[afflictions]] that attacks the body (poisons, disease, stuns). * Will affects [[afflictions]] that attack the mind. * Magic defense affects attacks that are magical in origin or nature (spells and Arcane damage). ==Parry and Dodge== Physical defenses are used to resist direct weapon attacks. Melee attacks are defended against using the target's [[parry|Parry]] skill, while Ranged attacks are defended using [[dodge|Dodge]]. As these skills are used, they gain experience and improve their skill rank over time. [[parry|Parry]] and [[dodge|Dodge]] can be modified by shields, equipped armor, Talents, and other effects from spells or items. ==Endurance== Endurance resists attacks on the internal physical systems of the character (e.g. poison, disease, stunned, etc.).
